American Legion Joiner-Fitzhugh Post 278

 

Minutes of February 21, 2017 meeting at Hood County Annex I

 

Meeting was opened by Commander Asa Maddox at 5:30 P.M. Opening prayer was given by Chaplin Steve Maples and the Pledge to the flag was recited.

Dinner was provided by the Legion Auxiliary.

Program was given by Karen Carmody who performed with the USO troop during Vietnam era.

Minutes from Jan. 17 meeting were presented along with financial report for Feb. 20. Both were accepted as presented.

The Gardens of Decordova has ask our Post to do a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day.

Advertising pens with our post name on them were given to all attending post and auxiliary members. One was also given as a gift to our guest speaker.

There was a discussion about establishing a Post 278 web site. A Legion sanctioned web site is available through American Legion National with them doing the set-up of the site and locally we add our post information. The initial cost is $299.00 for set-up and first year. Motion to go forward with this project was made by Maurice Simpson and seconded by Roy Malone. There was one nay with everyone else voting aye.

Another of our members recently passed away: Burton Burks Jr.

Boys State applicants are being interviewed.

We are getting started on a new raffle: His &Her Glock pistols. Drawing to be September 18 at our membership meeting.

Our District 6 Spring convention will be at Post 255 in Whitney April 8th and 9th. Our delegates are Asa Maddox, Maurice Simpson, Tom Parry, Steve Maples and Andy Rash.

Next meeting will Mar. 20, 2017 at 5:30pm.
