Minutes of May 16, 2017 meeting at Hood County Annex I


Meeting was opened by Commander Asa Maddox at 5:30 P.M. Opening prayer was given by District Chaplin Maurice Simpson and the Pledge to the flag was recited.

Dinner was provided by the Legion Auxiliary.

Program was given by Tom Parry on the meaning of the Preamble to the American Legion Constitution.

Minutes from April 18, 2017 meeting were presented along with financial report for May 16, 2017. Both were accepted as presented.

Tom Parry gave a membership report. We sent out 16 letters to delinquent members. We got one response with that member paying his 2017 dues.

The Wet Veterans organization is co-sponsoring a Soul Repair (Moral Damage) program along with the Acton United Methodist Church. Andy Rash motioned to donate $300.00 seconded by Tom Parry. All approved.

Tom Parry and Maurice Simpson volunteered to represent our Post at the Department Convention. The Post will pay their convention fee of $50.00($25 each)

Both of our JROTC recipients have joined the Marine Corps and will not be attending college. We did give $500.00 in military relief to one of the students.

We elected officers for 2017-2018. Steve Maples has declined to serve due to family issues and Kelton Conner has declined to serve as Judge Advocate. Everyone else continuing to serve in their present position: Asa Maddox – Commander, Andy Rash – Adjutant/Treasurer, Tom Parry-1st Vice – Commander, Maurice Simpson – 2nd Vice – Commander/Chaplin, Buck Lewellan – Service Officer/Historian, Ray Higgins – Sgt @ Arms.

We have a booth on the square for Memorial Day weekend to sell raffle tickets.

We will be doing a Flag retirement program on Flag Day (Wed., June 14) at the Gardens of Decordova

Next meeting June 20, 2017 Installation of Officers.
